Requirements for Admission
Students must be able to read, speak, and write the English language. If, during the admissions process, a question arises as to the student's ability to meet the English language criteria, he/she will be referred to the FAA for final approval. Additionally, a student must obtain at least a 3rd class medical certificate prior to the first solo flight, and must be at least 18 years of age prior to to completion of the commercial stage of training. It should be noted that a 2nd class medical certificate must be obtained in order to exercise the privileges of a commercial pilot.
A student must submit a copy of a high school diploma, GED certificate or equivalent foreign certificate prior to admission. If a student is unable to provide any of the above documentation, he/she may complete the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) upon arrival at Upper Limit Aviation. A satisfactory score on the WBST may be used in lieu of the diploma, GED. or equivalent foreign certificate. In addition, a student must provide a valid photo I.D., and passport or birth certificate to meet TSA (Transportation Security Administration) requirements.
Admission Procedures
To apply for admission, applicants should contact the Director of Admissions at the school to request an Enrollment Application. The Applicant should return the completed application, along with a copy of his/her high school diploma, GED or equivalent foreign certificate, and a $200.00 deposit. The deposit will be applied to the student's account once the student commences training, however, if the student fails to begin training on the date agreed upon, it will be forfeited to Upper Limit Aviation. Upon receipt of the above materials, the student will be issued a school catalog.
Credit for Previous Training
A student may be credited for up to 100% of previously completed training. All applicable pilot's certificates or ratings that the student currently holds will be applied towards the Courses in which he/she enrolls. Credit for previous pilot experience and knowledge which did not result in a certificate or rating will be applied towards the curriculum requirements of a course in accordance with FAR 141.77
Starting Dates and Training Schedules
Because all training is conducted on a one-on-one basis, training will commence on the date requested by the student or as soon as the school is able to accommodate the schedule being requested. Student training schedules are flexible with regard to training dates and times and will be adapted to fit the individual needs of students.

First Steps to Becoming a Helicopter Pilot… through the Salt Lake Community College Rotor-Wing Degree Program
We understand that the process of applying for financial aid can be time consuming and sometimes frustrating. Below you will find a list of steps that must be completed in order to comply with Salt Lake Community College admission requirements and to ensure a timely enrollment. Please do not hesitate to contact Upper Limit Aviation with any questions.
Our office staff is knowledgeable and willing to assist you in any way possible.
1. Take an Introductory Flight and/or a Tour of the School. This flight consists of meeting with a Certified Flight Instructor, discussing basic helicopter aerodynamics and information pertaining to the Robinson R22. You then receive an FAA endorsement, and go for a flight. (The endorsement and the flight both count towards your training, should you choose to continue.) You will go flying, and get a “hands-on” feel for what flying a helicopter is really like and learn if this is a career that you are interested in further considering and pursuing.
Applications
2. Apply to Salt Lake Community College (Utah Residents) at http://www.utahmentor.org/applications/salt_lake_community_college/apply.html Pay college application fee and get your Mypage password.
o a. Transfer Credits If you have previous education credits and desire to transfer transcripts from a previous college to SLCC. Request a complete evaluation of your transcripts at: https://ww2.slcc.edu/enroll-serv/enroll-ssl-form
3. Complete FAA Medical. You will need a 2nd Class Medical with a Student Certificate. To find a location near you, please visit www.faa.gov and click on licenses and certificates. Scroll down to where it says Medical and select Get a Medical Certificate. Select Contact an AME of Your Choosing and then fill out the city and state information to find a facility near you. The cost varies from $50 to $100 depending on where you choose to get your medical. You can also visit http://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/.
4. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This form will check your eligibility for Federal Aid.
There are four basic types of federal aid: http://www.slcc.edu/financialaid/docs/FACT9_-_Loan_Programs.pdf
The Pell Grant , Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans, and Work Study.
Salt Lake Community College school code is 005220. Students should apply online, include the SLCC School Code and sign with their PIN. SLCC will have the information within 72 hours of the student hitting “submit” Within 24 hours after SLCC has received your information, all the necessary documentation required by SLCC will appear on your MyPage Account under the student tab. This information including links to necessary forms will also be emailed to your MyMail email address within 24 hours. SLCC is timely on completing the paperwork, so check your email OFTEN!
If students need help with their FASFA application, SLCC provides assistance Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. They can help them fill out the worksheet or sit at a computer with them. However, students need to bring the necessary information.
When filling out the form, you will need access to the information on the previous year’s taxes. If you are under age 23 and not married, you will need your parent’s tax information as well. The form will ask for a school code, you will need to enter 005220 for SLCC. This form can take between 3-10 weeks to be processed. Please do not wait to hear back on this form to move on to the next step. The results will be sent to the college. You can file for financial aid twice a year. Also, just because the FAFSA may deem you ineligible for the Pell Grant does not mean that you are denied aid! There are many grants and loans for which students are eligible IF they apply early enough!
You should fill out the Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every school year; even if you think, you make too much money to qualify for aid. If you are uneasy about filling out the long and tedious application, use one of the following FAFSA help services for assistance to ensure your application is submitted correctly.
There is a pre application worksheet available for the printable FAFSA form. The form you fill out will be a regular FAFSA or a renewal FAFSA. The difference between the two is miniscule.
If you require assistance with the Federal Application, contact the following financial aid help agencies: http://www.easyaid.com/why_pay.html or https://www.fafsa.com/Forms/Ajax/FAFSA/default.aspx

All matriculated students are required to take a placement assessment called the Accuplacer (or submit ACT or SAT scores). This test helps determine your skill level in the areas of reading, English and mathematics. You must complete placement assessment before registering for any classes. Visit an SLCC Assessment Center to take the Accuplacer Assessment. The Accuplacer Assessment is currently administered daily on a walk-in basis at Redwood, South City and Jordan Campuses. Flight Technology/Professional Pilot Students
When you apply for an alternative loan, please provide the Financial Aid Office:
1) Copy of your private pilot's license, or
2) Copy of your current FAA Class 2 Medical with a student certificate
and most importantly,
3) an Alternative Loan Form for the Professional Pilot Programs (form is attached and available at the Redwood Campus) of your proposed class schedule for the loan period requested.
This should be sent to the attention of Kathi Beecher at kathleen.beecher@slcc.edu and must be completed before SLCC receives the first disbursement of your alternative loan.
Because alternative student loans are based on your enrollment in school most alternative loans must be certified by the school you are attending. Salt Lake Community College requires you to do the following:
• Have completed and fully processed a current FAFSA application available at www.fafsa.ed.gov
• Have submitted all required documentation to the Financial Aid Office
• Have been awarded all possible federally based financial aid available to you including subsidized and unsubsidized student loans (at lower interest rates!)
• We strongly urge you to apply for any scholarships for which you may be eligible
Once these steps are complete if you still need additional aid to meet your educational expenses for flight time, equipment, uniforms, etc. you can then apply for the alternative loan of your choice. Salt Lake Community College does not generally certify loans to cover living expenses and will only certify loans over the basic Cost of Attendance (as determined by applying for federal aid) to cover additional cost directly related to your program of study.

If there are mistakes, correct them online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ or go into the college and request assistance or let the college know and have them make the corrections. Next, Look to see if you are selected for verification (this has nothing to do with the amount you will be awarded).
