Helicopter Flight Training
Upper Limit Aviation is able to offer Helicopter Flight Training for Private Pilot Rotorcraft/Helicopter all the way to Certified Flight Instructor, as well as, Instrument rating and Instrument Instructor under FAR Part 141/ 61. Most of the helicopter flight training is done in a Robinson R22 Beta II with the exception of instrument instruction. At Upper Limit we train our students to fly instruments in our Robinson R44 Raven II, which not only offers students a more well rounded Helicopter Flight Training experience, it optimizes their time in the air due to its speed and ability at high altitude.
As well as instrument training in the R44, students also have the opportunity to train in our FAA approved FlyIt Simulator, flight training device. This enables the student to have an accurate flight model including translational lift, ground effect, engine torque and auto-rotations. Additionally, students have the ability to practice simulated emergency procedures such a tail rotor failure, which one cannot practice in the air. The Fly It Simulator flight training device simulates 8 different helicopters and 23,000 locations worldwide. When ULA instructors leave for bigger and brighter opportunites in helicopter aviation, they use the simulator to practice flying in the local terrain of their new jobs. They have the advantage of practicing approaches and become familiar to a new area before they even arrive at the new job.
Helicopter Flight schools generally operate and train under Federal Aviation Regulation Part 61 which outlines the certification of pilots and instructors. Upper Limit is committed to providing the most effective and proficient helicopter flight training available. With this commitment in mind, Upper Limit submitted to the FAA course credentials under FAR Part 141. Due to the higher standard and FAA regulations, Part 141 allows students to follow an approved helicopter flight and ground training syllabus. Over the course of the last two years the FAA has stamped their approval for the Helicopter Private Pilot, Commercial Helicopter Pilot and Certified Helicopter Instructor (CFI) Courses. We are currently in the process of submitting Instrument and CFII course credentials. In addition, Upper Limit is diligently pursuing approval141 Add- On Ratings for all courses offered.
We are confident that we have a quality program and are working to further that program and provide premium training for our students here at Upper Limit. Even though, at this time, our helicopter flight training students receive their Instrument and CFII ratings under the requirements of Part 61, we operate under the standards and training required by Part 141.
