2010 Summer Flight Academy

Offered through Salt Lake Community College, Upper Limit Aviation and Cornerstone Aviation, the Summer Flight Academy is a one-week, interactive program designed to introduce high school-aged students from economically challenged backgrounds to aviation and aviation related careers.

With one to two hours of flight in both helicopters and airplanes, our primary focus is to introduce students to the world of aviation through hands-on experience. Other activities include a trip to Hill Air Force base to visit the aviation museum and flightline, a walk-through of Salt Lake City International Airport, and tours of an airline maintenance facility and IHC Life Flight EMS services.

All materials, meals, transportation and accommodations for the week will be provided.

Dates

Week 1: 6/13/2010- 6/19/2010 (males only)

Week 2: 6/21/2010- 6/27/2010 (females only)

Through a generous grant from the Department of Education's Carl Perkins Fund, we are pleased to be able to offer the Summer Flight Academy at an all-inclusive cost to students. Students are responsible for a $100 tuition fee and a $50 refundable deposit only.

Students will be required to fill out an application (download below), submit a brief essay on why they are interested in the aviation industry, and remit a letter of reference from a high school advisor. Applications must be returned by May 7th, 2010.  Space is limited, and applicants will be notified of their acceptance status approximately 2 weeks later.
